(78 – 86)

Pinar Karsiyaka was clear favorites before the game and they came into this game with a solid game plan which they repeated over and over again, which was creating mismatches for low-post offenses. Ufuk Sarica took advantage of Fethiye’s switching strategy by using a 3rd man at high post area as a passing channel for mismatch on the low block.

Jeffery Morgan dominated the paint in the first half while shooting with 6-7. For Fethiye Brandon Frazier scored 19 points while shooting %50(only had 2 assisted shots while doing so). Frazier converted very tough positions into a basket most of them came from one on one plays. Frazier deserves more adjustments on the offensive end, Fethiye’s coaching staff should work on some set plays to create more ideal positions for Frazier. Abdul Malik Abu had himself a monster game with 25 points while shooting with %91. He dominated the 3rd quarter with 11 points and helped his team to stay in the game. Yunus Sonsirma had himself a solid night with sickening defense on opposition ball handler and taking responsibility when needed.

Fethiye Belediye used full court press and zone defense more often in the 2nd half this helped them to slow down Karsiyaka’s offense yet wasn’t enough because of the damage in the first half. Karsiyaka out rebounded Fethiye by 10 (24-34) and 6 (5-11) of those were offensive rebounds which were converted into second chance points (8-14).

1st Quarter 03:21 – 03:31

It is known that Ufuk Sarica likes to have full court pressure on opponents point guard. In this possession Yunus Sonsirma does a great job by directing Firat Toz (#4) towards sideline. Darion Atkins starts his movement towards opposite corner, Amat M’Baye recognizes the 2 on 1 play which will lead to an easy fast break layup.

1st Quarter 04:32 – 04:46

M’Baye slips and fade after pick and roll which creates a mismatch for M’Baye. M’Baye reads the play and positions himself in low post area. Frazier prefers to guard from front side in order to prevent an easy pass. Morgan gets the ball at high post area looks for an easy lob pass. Darion Atkins stays way inside in order to help but this creates a wide open three-point opportunity for Yunus which he knocks down without hesitation. This possession was a summary of the Karsiyaka’s offensive strategy.

1st Quarter 05:05 – 05:17

Another mismatch possession for Karsiyaka. Kennedy & Morgan PnR results in a mismatch due to switch. M’Baye quickly come towards ball and connects it with a nice pass.

1st Quarter 08:03 – 08:13

After a PnR with Abu, Frazier drives towards corner and finds himself an opening just enough to pull up. This possession is important because it may be one of the easiest attempts for Frazier in whole. He is classy but needs to be more utilized.

3rd Quarter 07:04 – 07:16

Elgin Cook plays a simple PnR, Abu takes advantage of Kennedy’s mistake rolls quickly and converts the play. Darion Atkins does a great job with screening M’Baye with that action he prevents help defense may be coming from him.

3rd Quarter 08:37 – 08:51

After a broken play Abu gets the near right corner than quickly attacks baseline, benefits from Semih’s relatively slow feet connects to an and-one play with a strong move.

4th Quarter 03:39 – 03:48

Yunus gets the rebound after a tough 3 pointers from Darion Atkins, quickly moves the ball into opponent’s half court. Asks for screen and sees that Aby went under, knocks down crucial jumper.

Simple and effective 3-man action from Fethiye. Frazier and Abu plays a high PnR with great spacing on the floor (2 shooter at each corner). Abu makes a quick roll while his man behind him and Atkins completes the triangle with a well-adjusted lob pass. Fethiye should have used this kind of more collective set plays rather than isolation plays while Abu was on another level.
