Our very own Ian Riaf, took the time to sit down with Rob Ukawuba and do a very insightful Remote Scouting Session.
Here is the full session video:
Rob Ukawuba is a versatile two-way combo-guard, who most recently played for Circulo Gijon in the LEB Silver League. While Ukawuba has always provided high-level strength and athleticism on both sides of the floor dating back to his college days at NJIT, his main improvement over the past two seasons has been his ability to knock down the three-ball.
He shot close to 40% from three-point range last season and 37.5% in 2018-19 with Innova Chef.
Ukawuba credits this improvement to his offseason work with shooting coaches Joey Ross and Pete Marston as he continues to become a dangerous floor spacer.
After getting a chance to discuss his mindset as a shooter, it’s clear that, given his consistency, Ukawuba wants to become a higher volume three-point shooter. While Ukawuba’s game is unique, stylistically he profiles as a high motor physical combo-guard, similar to the likes of Bruce Brown, David Nwaba, Brad Wanamaker, and De’Anthony Melton.
On offense, Ukawuba is a very capable slasher and able to finish around the rim with contact. He is always in an attack mode as he draws on inspiration from explosive guards Dwayne Wade and Derrick Rose.
Ukawuba’s quick first step, decision-making skills, and leaping ability, combined with his three-point shooting efficiency, make him a multidimensional threat with the ball in his hands.
