Here is the 6th player we introduce to you as a part of the “Video & Stats Talk” series.
Toddrick Gotcher a graduate of Texas Tech went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft but found his path playing international basketball very smoothly. Check out in this Q&A session what he reveals to the public.
We put together a number of questions sent forward by our owner Mr. Duran to Mr. Toddrick Gotcher to go over:
– what are the 5 critical aspects of your opponent to focus on?
The top 3 aspects for me while scouting a player involves (1) understanding where my opponent likes to get his shots from (2) the pace of the player, whether he is a transition player or a half-court kind of guy (3) and understanding what type of plays he scores from and whether the team runs plays for him.
– how do you prepare for your opponent utilizing video?
I prepare by asking the assistant coaches to send me individual film of the players that I will possibly be guarding. I love to scout the entire roster also so that I can get any advantage possible while on the court.
– Do you solely rely on the cuts shared by assistant coaches?
Sometimes stats do not give the entire story. So I rely heavily on the film breakdown so that I can see for myself what I am up against. For example, a player could shoot 45% from the 3pt, but he may only shoot 1 per game. So the film helps me understand if they are contested 3’s or wide-open 3’s.
We’d like to thank Toddrick for his time and wish him well for next season!
